Missing Out?
Thursday, May 22, 2008, 12:08 PM - Machinima
You know what I love? I mean, really, really love? Open BoF / Round table talks about Machinima. The art, the craft, the legal issues, just about damn near everything about it. Did you know about the Machinima Talk? It's one of those events that I simply would die to be a part of. However! Every single Machinima Talk since it's inception last year, has fallen on that ONE single day out of the month that for some mystically benign reason, I can't be there. Sometimes it's a trip, sometimes it's family, sometimes my computer explodes. There was one event last year, I was freaking ready for it. I spent a few hours ahead of time fine-tuning my microphone, balancing my headphones, getting Skype (before the switch to Second Life) loaded and ready to rock, and then... I'm a damn week ahead of myself. The event is for the next Saturday when I had to be off at a conference. Brilliant!

Even when it switches around to better accommodate the likely participants, life somehow catches up just in time to thwart me. I just know that the day I finally make it to a Machinima Talk, would be the same day my lotto ticket finally gets it right.

Okay, I'm done here. Enjoy the Talk. I'll be in the east Texas woods camping out, and taking some time with mother nature.

Could be worse. You could do what I did, and actually be free to attend, but get the time wrong and turn up 24 hours late. If you were a real idiot, you might even arrogantly invite some other machinima peeps along, only to be told that they did in fact attend, yesterday, and where the heck were you?

As the final icing on the cake, you could make this mistake not once, not twice, but three times. Then you'd really feel stupid.
