Thursday, May 8, 2008, 12:37 PM - MachinimaSo I've been on the prowl for a budget minded Machinima friendly laptop, as promised, and I think I've found a good fit: Acer Aspire AS5920-6574 It comes in just over 1,000 bucks, and seems to have enough specs to rock the tools and game engines generally used in Machinima productions. Surely it won't be a desktop replacement, but it seems to have a good bang-for-buck ratio. The only thing I would replace is the HDD for a 7200rpm. Consumer reviews look favorable as well, they usually spot out the use-issues, and this model comes out strong.
Tuesday, May 6, 2008, 12:32 PM - The OfficeBarry is all set to spend part of his summer in the DoQ office, working on his For Science project, and weíre damn glad to have him. I'm pretty excited about the whole gig, it's the first time we've had a third person so involved on a formal DoQ project; that they'd be in the same country, much less same office is unprecedented! I really like the idea over just interfacing through the interweb; I find having people at hand really motivates me.
We have the super-talented artist, Tommy W. Farley, working on the character designs, I canít wait to see how they turn out! Using an outside artist is also a first for DoQ, but weíve known Tommy for some time through SummerTech, and his unique styling fits perfectly with For Science.
Otherwise, things are pretty quiet; Iíve been lazy, touring Liberty City pretty much all day every day since GTA IV came out. I feel bad for not working on any Machinima lately, but I figure itíll be non-stop this summer. On that note, my old laptop has just about retired to HTPC status since the screen is nearly shot. I canít exactly spring for a new mobile rig powerful enough to do full-bore DoQ work, but Iím going to need something for the summer when Iím away from the office. Iíll be exploring the options this month, and Iíll report my findings for a budget minded Machinima friendly laptop.
Also, I'm really proud of this picture for some reason.
Monday, April 14, 2008, 03:29 PM - EverythingFellow adventurers, readers:
I wish today to introduce to you my good friend Stanley. Things always seem to be looking pretty down and out, but old Stanley never gives in. Reflecting on it now, that's probably the only thing likable about him. For much of his life Stanley lived in stagnation, devoid of light and motivation. Then, he was shaken by a dream. A dream of a future so certain and absolute, that it shook the very foundations of his hellish world. The only choices left for Stanley were to do what he had always done, or challenge everything. It was wrought with chaos and strife, it teased the bitter edge, but Stanley made his choice and took up arms. Through happenstance and choice alike he would enrich the lives of many, like a crazy delicious cream-centered Twinkie. For others, he would serve as a looking glass into hell.
What befalls him shall be for reveled the first time, right here at deadonque.com. His inner most secret fears and dreams exposed for all to see! Adventurers, readers, please join us as four noble observers tell of Stanley, and his daring escape from a life not lived!
Buddy of DoQ
Monday, March 31, 2008, 12:15 PM - LifeIt's absurd really, that I should be so kind and grace this planet with another year of awesome. Happy birthday, me!
(Seriously, I've gotten a bunch of notes and birthday wishes today, thank you all!)
In the month I've owned my DLSR, I have taken more pictures than is nice to count; certainly broken my lifetime accumulation record. In celebration of my new hobby, I've taken to updating my DA account again after two years of "forgot I even had one!"
The Bluebonnets are starting to bloom, it's like the Texas equivalent to the Japanese Sakura where people flock to the fields for picnics and pictures. Armed to the gills with the photographers' spirit, I'll take photo after photo until I get one worthy of a state issued spring guide. It's rare for me to pick up a hobby that inspires so much will to improve, haven't felt this determined since Fake Science almost wasn't.
